Widening Access
Go Beyond Expectation
We want to encourage students from the widest possible range of backgrounds to participate in university studies, and we appreciate that not all students have the same opportunity to meet our standard entry requirements.
If applicants meet one of the factors that the University considers under contextualised admissions then we can make an “adjusted” or reduced offer. We might also be able to make an offer of entry on reduced grades and/or participations in our bridging programme.
Any students that are entitled to an adjusted offer can receive pre-entry support from the Access and Articulation Team.
Access Aberdeen
The Access Aberdeen programme provides information, advice, and guidance to allow those from a widening access background to make an informed decision about their future studies. We offer discipline insight days, application support sessions, support for guidance teachers, parents evenings and individual guidance.
Bridging Programme
We recognise not every student has the same opportunities to study a full range of courses at school, so we offer a suite of online access courses as a flexible way to get the grades you want.
You can start any time, spread the cost and study at your own pace. Limited fee waivers are available for those living in SIMD20 postcode areas, in receipt of Free School Meals or are care experienced and who plan to use the qualification to apply to the University of Aberdeen.
Articulation From College
We welcome applications from students who have previously studied at college. This includes students taking Access or SWAP courses, Foundation Apprenticeships and those who have undertaken HNC or HND qualifications. We also offer an advisory service on all UCAS applications from college.
REACH
Hosted at the University of Aberdeen, the REACH programme provides information and guidance on applying for professional degrees. The project supports S4-S6 pupils to make informed choices about studying either Law or Medicine at University through a range of career insight days, application support sessions, mentoring opportunities, taster courses and individual guidance.
