Go Beyond Aberdeen
Join a global community that together seeks truth and sparks change.
Exploring perspectives and ideas through an international lens will challenge you to think bigger. And it all starts with a warm Aberdeen welcome.
Studying abroad opens up a world of new experiences and perspectives, you’ll broaden your friendship group, grow in confidence and enhance your employability, and there are more options available than you might think:
Study Exchange
A study exchange allows you to spend a semester or year abroad at one of our partner institutions in Europe, North America, Asia, Australia or South Africa. Most of our partners teach in English, all you need is to ensure the host university offers the relevant courses!
Traineeships
European Traineeships provide valuable work experience either as a full residence, industrial placement or project.
Summer Schools
Some of our partner institutions also offer summer schools, although there may be an additional tuition fee requirement.

Theo Williamson International Relations and English
International Exchange with University of North Carolina at Wilmington, USA
I chose the USA as my go-abroad destination as it was a country I had always been interested in with my studies in International Relations, and I knew I wanted to write my dissertation about the politics there.
Although I had never thought to go there as a disabled student, I had so many opportunities thrown my way from conferences to kayaking and travelling to Canada as well as Universal Orlando.
I had access to incredible support at both home and abroad, the university I chose was right next to a beach and an airport so it was incredibly easy to chill by the beach on a hot day or travel on a long weekend. It has been the best thing I've done in my degree.
Theo is our Go Abroad Champion for students in the LGBTQ+ community, students with Physical Disabilities and First Generation students.

Eleonora Mitreva Biomedical Science (Physiology)
Industrial Placement with University Hospital Essen, Germany
I went abroad to explore a new culture, make new friends, and learn to be more confident and adaptable.
Living abroad was transformative, it was a challenging journey towards self-discovery. I made lifelong friends, navigated language barriers, and broadened my worldview. My top tip is to embrace the unknown, being curious and savouring every moment. The more you engage, the more fulfilling your experience abroad will be.

Laura Heeb Spanish and Latin American Studies
European Traineeship in Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Spending a year in Palma de Mallorca was nothing short of amazing. It was a transformative journey that not only introduced me to the vibrant local culture but also enriched my understanding of myself.
The friendships I forged during my stay are some of the most cherished in my life, and the memories remain deeply ingrained in my heart.
Immersing myself in a different culture opened my eyes to new possibilities, allowing me to evolve and discover my true self. Mallorca's beauty, the enriching culture, and the warmth of its people left an indelible mark on me, leaving me yearning to return to the place I called ‘home’ for the past year.

Caitlin Brodie Politics and International Relations
International and European Exchange with Yonsei University, South Korea & University of Lapland, Finland
Be open-minded! Try things you might never have considered before, meet lots of new friends and be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone.
After all, adventure and travel are some of the best ways to learn. This advice was given to me before I left on my first exchange, which I enjoyed so much that I took advantage of the opportunity to complete a second exchange.
If I hadn’t listened to this advice I wouldn’t have experienced seeing the northern lights in Lapland or backpacking across South Korea and Japan.

Zuzanna Wojcicka Business Management - International Relations
International Exchange with Curtin University, Australia
Studying in Perth, Australia was one of the sunniest, fun and most rewarding trips during my studies. From learning about Australian and Aboriginal cultures and art to snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef – I had a chance to travel around the land down under and meet friends for life.
The university campus is full of palm trees, exotic birds, hammocks and after classes everyone spent their afternoons at the beach – no wonder Aussies are so laid back and friendly!
My advice for you is to get out of your comfort zone, apply for your exchange abroad and go! Australia or not, every location has so much to offer – you’ll discover a new place, meet great friends and make amazing memories!
"Get out of your comfort zone, apply for your exchange abroad and go!"
